In 2008 I had my best year ever financially… That is until October when the financial crash seemed to cause a deathly silence to fall over my phone and email in box… by January of 2009 I was homeless.
But through the grace of a friend who had also lost 90 percent of his business, I had an apartment to stay in in a building that was being foreclosed on.
The refrigerator broke. I used a cooler.
One week I had no money for food… a friend showed up with a 5 pound bag of quinoa.
When I focused on the miracles more showed up.
When I focused on lack and failure, more showed up.
So I began focusing my mind more and more on the miracles. This song showed up as a result. There’s an extra verse in here that was supposed to be edited out but maybe it’s the verse I (or you) need to hear extra times!

I’m A Rich Man (To Have You For A Friend)
Song # 395 | 4/8/09 | CD: TBD
I may not have a lot of money at the moment in the bank
But I am so abundant that I easily give thanks
I got a soft, warm bed to sleep in and a roof over my head
Got fresh cream for my coffee and butter for my bread
Well the sky is free for breathing and the ground is free to walk
I got a voice to sing with and words with which to talk
Refrain:
I’m a rich man, I’m a rich man, I’m a rich man, Yes I’m a rich man
I’m a rich man. Yes I’m a rich man
I’m a rich man to have you for friend.
I’m a rich man to have you for friend.
I’ve got the sun to warm my body and the moon to soothe my eyes
Every day that passes helps to make me realize
Life is full of moments that we sometimes do not notice
The blossom of a dandelion rivals any lotus
There is so much wealth around us, abundance that surrounds us
That sometimes it’s a challenge to maintain our focus
Refrain:
Well the world is full of magic and the world is full of pain
Learn the lessons from the tragic or repeat it all again
We never know who we will meet as we move through our days
All I know is it’s a treat to share the path with you a ways
Well this song may be too simple and this song may be too sweet
But this song helped me through a day when I was in defeat
Refrain:
