This is about the adventure I never had. I don’t know if kids in California dream of heading “East”. The way we kids in the East dream of heading “out West”. But quite a few of my high school friends made their own “coming of age” pilgrimages by taking the “no grown-ups allowed, first road trip” kind of thing with one or two of their best buddies. So this song is for them. And it’s also for all of us who realize that the biggest adventure of all is simply being here. Wherever we actually are and appreciating it for all its gifts and challenges.
Happy travels!

Summer Storm
(America The Beautiful)
Song #331 | 5/19/2003 | CD: Spark and Flame | Tuning: EABEBE
There’s a summer storm from the West
Bringing rain and a cooling breeze
In the Eastern sky, There’s a growing moon
Aching for release
There’s an interstate that knows both our names
Can you hear it calling us?
So I dare you to come with me…
Let’s leave the East coast in the dust
Refrain:
And the spacious skies above the plain
And the waves of amber grain
“America, The Beautiful” how does a kid restrain
This urgency to see it all from Sea to shining sea!
So you got to let me know if you’re coming with me…
They don’t have to know that we have gone
Until we are too far away
This is the summer of our freedom
So what do you say?
Can you see us crossing the Golden Gate
3,000 miles away from Maine
So let’s turn the key. Engage the gears.
We will not be restrained
Refrain:
Can you taste the rain steam off the road
After the the thunder squall
And in a week or maybe two
the road will start to fall
Towards the coast highway where we’ll find a phone
And make a collect call
Just to let them know that we are safe
And we will be back in the Fall…
Refrain:
