About this Song:
LOVE IS DANGEROUS, Song #222, is a tune I wrote back in the 1994 and recorded October of 2022. At the time, I was in a troubled marriage that everybody thought was wonderful and I had a huge crush on a married woman. Nothing ever came of it. It was clear that taking any kind of action would be extremely destructive and painful for a lot of people. So we just let it go. “We just let it fade away…”

I think this kind of thing happens all the time but nobody talks about it… much.

As a songwriter I can say from experience that intense emotions like Love ARE dangerous in that most people, most of the time shy away from feeling or expressing them. Maybe because I’m on the “spectrum” or just neurologically wired to feel things EXTREMELY intensely, writing songs has helped me to transform dangerous emotions into productive expressions.

Some may say this is a sad song. It doesn’t’ feel sad to me. It feels honest and vulnerable. I don’t think we should be afraid of intense emotions. We definitely should practice feeling them and letting them go rather than getting STUCK in them or wallowing in them and allowing them to take us down.

Ultimately, the intense feelings of love we have for another person are an invitation to express that level of love, compassion, forgiveness and care for our selves. You know exactly what you want to feel. How about practicing feeling THAT for yourself.

Peace, Love & Groovyness!

– Mark Shepard, Singer Songwriter

Lyrics:
Love Is Dangerous
Song #222. | written 1994. |. Recorded October 2022

Though I’ve been over you for several hours
I thought I’d go ahead and send the flowers anyway…
Just as a friend…

Please forgive me if I hide my sadness
Beneath a false and shallow mask of gladness
Cuz in the end…
Love Is Dangerous

Refrain:
Love is Dangerous
Love is Dangerous

You know exactly what I’m talking about
we don’t have to quarrel or shout
we can just let it fade away
Cuz love is dangerous

I’ve been watching you for sings of weakness
maybe just a little hint of distress
but you you seem fine…
Love is dangerous

Refrain:

Instrumental

If I had you in my arms I’d kiss you
Somehow I’ve got to find a way to resist you
down the line.
Love is dangerous

Refrain X2

Though I’ve been over you for several hours
I thought I’d go ahead and send the flowers anyway…
Just as a friend…

I sh*t you not when I say I’ve been singing the chorus to Honest Rock since the first day I heard it. I sing this every single day. Many times a day. Seriously. It’s like a mantra to me. It soothes me:-)

For me these songs are transformational lessons in self-love…

Dear Mark, THANK YOU for sending *Spark & Flame*!!!! This CD certainly is a compilation of Conscious Love Songs! As I listen I am transported to memory after memory past, present and future, fulfilled and unfulfilled. I was flooded with many different emotions. I cried, laughed, held my breath and also breathed deep heart-centered breaths of connection to the Divine. I feel joy, grief, sadness, compassion, love, awe, freedom, kindness, gratitude and appreciation. For me these songs are transformational lessons in self-love, releasing, acceptance for what was, what is and who I am. Knowing that I am enough and that I am Divinely Loved.

You have put a grown man in tears…

Mark, this song and message really hit home for me today. You have put a grown man in tears. Thank You for what you do. Sometimes I think you sound kind of cheesy, and then others, I think you are a genius, and I’m beginning to realize that you actually care about helping people. So hard to “get out of your own way” sometimes…thanks for the reminder.

Jeremy
