This is the 3rd version of this song… It was originally a fairly straight up love song but over the years evolved into a love song to the human spirit of healing and compassion that seemed to show up on a regular basis back when I was practicing NLP Hypnosis. Every client I worked with seemed to have a similar story to my own. Ultimately healing is about being willing to work and even struggle to understand and transform ourselves. No one else can do it for us. But someone who cares deeply can be a powerful help if only because I am right there walking the path with you…
I often counsel/coach/preach that part of the healing path is to be patient enough to catch yourself “holding the shift”…
anyway this is one of those songs that goes “deep” and it’s not for everybody… or maybe it is.

(version 3)Life In Song #385 | 10/15/08 | recorded May 2022
When I do not wonder why
We are the way we always seem to be
What if we left the chains behind
That exist only in our minds
And choose the a path that dares us to be free?Though we have failed before and may fail again
I beg your patience please
‘Til you can hold the shift and accept
A lift from the prevailing breeze
So we can strike the match that re-ignites the flame
That no on can explain
And we have the wings to rise above the plain
And the love I hold for you
Well it makes me catch my breath
For you and I are sewn from the very same cloth
And together we are more
And our steps are swift and sure
And every doubt is merely part of the plan
But if you’ve built your walls so thick and tall
That you cannot climb or clear
Then I will sing this song and sing it loud and long
’Til you can not help but hear
And even while you sleep,
My tune will sink deep into your ears
Because freedom never bows to fear…
And the thought of your smile
Even if it takes a while
Enables me to dare yet another day
So my fingers touch these strings
And in spite of everything
Something larger than we are vibrates the air
And now a light of sorts
Begins to pour forth into the night
While the eyes that were so blind and sore
Fill themselves with sight
And the bones of all that went before
Are now bleached dry and white
And I offer you my hand as we land upon a farther shore…
