If a song is sung in a forest and no one hears it, does it exist?
Hi! Welcome to my “Life In Song” project.
Since 1976, I’ve been obsessively and compulsively writing songs. Some of them are inspired by my own life, my attempts to understand love, life, spirituality, peace and justice. Some are serious, others are not. I’ve also written kid songs and songs inspired by amazing people who have shown up along my journey.
While I recently have started to get a little recognition, (“Together We Can Change The World” won a “Posi” award in 2014), you’ve never heard my songs on the radio.

Hell, who even listens to the radio these days?
The bottom line is: You’ve probably never heard of me until now. But chances are I know a few things about you:
- You appreciate excellence wherever you find it.
- You don’t care if “everybody else is doing something”. You explore ideas and music that YOU find valuable and meaningful for YOUR life
- You are intelligent, creative, sensitive, intuitive.
- You love music with powerful, positive, meaningful, well constructed language. You are a “word person.”
- You are probably somewhat introverted meaning you enjoy quiet, reflective, alone time to recharge your batteries. And the right kind of music supports your process of re-creating your center and balance amidst the busyness and demands of your world…
Am I right?
If so, definitely get yourself on my opt-in list so you can get first crack at hearing these songs as I add them daily to the site. It’s going to take a while!
Imagine at least 500 days worth of original songs heading your way… and when you add in different versions, solo, live, studio etc… it may well be double that in actual downloadable, listenable material…
Many of us grew up over the years with singer songwriters like Bob Dylan, Jackson Browne, Bruce Cockburn, Joni Mitchell, Shawn Colvin, and others. It was great to watch their songs and styles evolve from album to album.
But that world, that pathway doesn’t exist anymore…. For the last 35-40 years, I’ve been writing songs that just never got heard. But “hey!” NOW is the time! :o)
I invite you to take a moment and check out what’s here because if you appreciate songs with meaningful lyrics (not everybody does) by the time I complete this project all of my 500 plus original songs will be here all in one place. Indexed, accessible, unfolding in ways that might even be better than we can possibly imagine!
In fact, the thoughts, feelings, emotions, inspirations, challenges… the life… that unfolds in song might not even by my life.
It very well could be your life.
I hope you’ll join me on the adventure as well of allowing my new songs to unfold in real time. What I mean by that is, as I write new songs and recorded them they will show up here just like my finds and family have gotten to hear them over the years, fresh, raw, and in process…
As I write this (December of 2014) I am not entirely sure how to actually pay for all the recording. And I am not concerned. I am moving forward regardless. The “way” will appear!
What I’ve been doing is recording a cd’s worth of songs at a time and then making them available through Amazon.com’s CreateSpace. By keeping the recording limited to just me and guitar or piano I can keep the costs down and only need to see 50 or so CD’s to break even. But some of my earlier “produced” cd’s are also available through Amazon/CreateSpace I’m working on setting each CD page up so you can hear the entire album before you buy it.
My dream is to be abl
e to focus on this full time and really “git’ er done!” So your support is really important.
A woman at Unity Church in Albany, where I play weekly, initially hesitated to spend the $20 for one of my CD’s. But after she listened to it she assured me that it was “very much worth every penny.” Here on the site you will be able to either purchase the CD’s from Amazon/Create Space or directly (instantly) download full sets of songs as they are organized by CD. Hopefully that works for you. If you want something else let me know!
Originally Amazon carried the CD’s as well as the mp3 downloads so you could grab a physical disc, or download one or all the songs from a CD. Here I’m in the process of setting it up so you can download entire albums at a time.
Ultimately, this project isn’t about me, it’s about You and connecting with you in a way that is meaningful and hopefully transformational.
