“Life In Song” #18: Dandelion Wine is meant to be a duet between a man and a woman. It’s kind of a movie in song, sort of a “day in the life” of a couple in love as they spend a beautiful summer day delighting in each other’s company as well as in the natural world around them. To think I almost forgot how to play this lovely song! Just like “Young Man In a Hurry” before this, this video is the first and only time I’ve ever recorded this song. So again, that’s part of what this “Life In Song” project is all about, preserving some of these songs that haven’t been recorded yet. Please help me share this song with as many people as you can! Play it for your lover or spouse! Better yet, take a day off together and live this song! Appreciate the moments you have together…
PLEASE! Use headphones or decent speakers to listen to this instead of your tinny little computer speakers. It’s recorded in crystal clear digital sound and the headphones really make a difference!

Lyrics:
Dandelion Wine | March 1978 | Song #18
Man’s Voice:
The June sun patiently climbs
The back of another day
Defensively the darkness prepares
Itself to be up and away
Walk with me through the morning fields
Burdened with the dew
Take a wet breath, feel it fill your lungs
And five its life to you…
You and I, like the impatient lovers that we are
Soak up this day
Loving the earth and the birds and each other
In many special ways
Hold me like the dark soil holds
The flowers and the trees
Hold me like the ocean floor
Holds the weight of the seas
Your eyes look like Dandelion Wine…
I glimpse inside the colors of a thousands summer times
Your eyes look like Dandelion Wine…
Could you, would you tell me what you see in mine?
Woman’s Voice:
“Hot pavement, cool grass
Living each day as if it were your last
I see a breeze filled rose, graciously giving
A petal or two to the ground
You’re the sun’s bright dancing
In a water glass without a sound
You’re the red tailed Hawk gliding high
On August’s melting air
You’re the small boy
Wishing and wishing to join him up there…”
Both Voices:
Your eyes look like Dandelion Wine…
I glimpse inside the colors of a thousands summer times
Your eyes look like Dandelion Wine…
I glimpse inside the colors of a thousands summer times
And when the evening falls, like diamonds
Dropped from a woman’s hand
The birds fly home to their roosting
Like a scattered marching band
The noble flame that rules our heavens
Seeks a place to die
We watch it slide so reluctantly
Out of the western sky
Now the moon glows in the cobalt twilight
Like an echo of the sun
And you and I lie on our backs and feel the wind
And wonder where it comes from…
Your eyes look like Dandelion Wine…
I glimpse inside the colors of a thousands summer times
Your eyes look like Dandelion Wine…
I glimpse inside the colors of a thousands summer times
Night returns with it’s slow dreaming
Waiting for the patience of the dawn
When the darkness will, once more
Rise and then be gone
Rise and then be gone….
Your eyes look like Dandelion Wine…
I glimpse inside the colors of a thousands summer times
Your eyes look like Dandelion Wine…
I glimpse inside the colors of a thousands summer times
