About This Song (lyrics Below)
This is the first song I ever wrote for the then 11 year old Rilee O’Neill. It was kind of a test really. Bill Rodman, her godfather, wanted to see what would happen if I wrote a song for her.
So I wrote it. She came into the studio to sing it and TOTALLY NAILED IT. BOOOOOM!
It was pretty cool for me to hear someone else singing one of my songs for the first time in my life.
30 years of songwriting and that was the first someone else besides ME sang one of my songs.
Cowabungah Baby!
It quickly became just one of over a dozen songs that later became part of the “Letters To Daddy” Musical.
Dare To Be
12/26/2006 | Song # 359 | CD: Letters To Daddy
Refrain
Stand up and breathe!
Look out to the far horizon
Reach up and receive
Something you can build on
Dare to be who you want to be
Dare to go where you want to go
Dare to see the possibilities
Dare to do what you want to do
Dare to know what you got to know
Dare to take “response-ability”
Dare to dream what you want to dream
Dare to say what you gotta say
Dare to be strong (from now on)
Dare to mean what you really mean
Dare to stay where you want to stay
Dare to belong (sing this song!)
Refrain
Dare to laugh if you want to laugh
Dare to sing if you want to sing
Even sitting in detention
Dare to love if you want to love
Dare to bring some brand new thing
To the world’s attention
Refrain
Bridge
Be the open road
Be the open sky
Be the open sea
Open up your eyes
