Street People-Song 015

“Life In Song” #15: “Street People” This song is a little documentary movie in song. If you can imagine walking down the side walks of New York City or any big City and reading the faces and attempting to perceive the stories behind each person’s outward mask…It’s really about the sport of people watching one of my favorite things to do…I hear a full rock band arrangement in my head on this one.

PLEASE! Use headphones or decent speakers to listen to this instead of your tinny little computer speakers. It’s recorded in crystal clear digital sound and the headphones really make a difference!

Lyrics:

Street People | March 1978 | Song #15

Come in to the silence of the crowded street
There are some faces I’d like for you to meet
The ones that look like locked doors
Concealing what’s inside
The ones who don’t reveal to you
The music of their minds…

That man knows his beer glass
Like a jeweler knows his jewels
Another man knows his empty pockets
Like a school boy knows his rules
And the young man who just passed us now
Is searching for a friend
Who understands his solitude
And knows how to make it end…

Refrain:
Stand inside the echoes
Of this cold concrete
It’s like an every moving photograph
Never to be complete
Hold the silence in your hand
And feel that it is wise
Assemble all your senses
And place them in your eyes

That girl knows the sidewalk
Like a songbird knows its cage
She’s a month from home and tired
Of lying about her age
The businessmen who know her best
Don’t know her very well
They’re too caught up inside themselves
With what she has to sell…

Refrain:

See the old man with the spaniel dog
He loves it like a song
And sometimes in his room at night
He dreams that he is young
And some “Victim of Society”
Just stole a lady’s purse
He eat the ground with his strong legs
And accelerates in bursts…

Refrain:

Tuning: Standard

For me these songs are transformational lessons in self-love…

Dear Mark, THANK YOU for sending *Spark & Flame*!!!! This CD certainly is a compilation of Conscious Love Songs! As I listen I am transported to memory after memory past, present and future, fulfilled and unfulfilled. I was flooded with many different emotions. I cried, laughed, held my breath and also breathed deep heart-centered breaths of connection to the Divine. I feel joy, grief, sadness, compassion, love, awe, freedom, kindness, gratitude and appreciation. For me these songs are transformational lessons in self-love, releasing, acceptance for what was, what is and who I am. Knowing that I am enough and that I am Divinely Loved.

I sh*t you not when I say I’ve been singing the chorus to Honest Rock since the first day I heard it. I sing this every single day. Many times a day. Seriously. It’s like a mantra to me. It soothes me:-)

You have put a grown man in tears…

Mark, this song and message really hit home for me today. You have put a grown man in tears. Thank You for what you do. Sometimes I think you sound kind of cheesy, and then others, I think you are a genius, and I’m beginning to realize that you actually care about helping people. So hard to “get out of your own way” sometimes…thanks for the reminder.

Jeremy
