This is yet another song inspired by a Rev. Jim Fuller talk at Unity Church In Albany NY.
Jim pointed out some pretty interesting details form the story of David and Saul and the process of kingship. Ultimately though, human power will always fail. And by Human power I mean the pushing of our “Will” out onto other people and our environment. Contrast that with the mystic who needs nothing from anyone, has no agenda other than personal self mastery, clarity and understanding… But again, it’s all perfect and exactly what we are here to learn and process through…

Every King Must Fall
6/25/13 | Song #573 | revised 02/16/2020
C G F C
Every generation has a prophet and a king
Am Em F G
Every generation seeks a way to end all suffering
C G F C
We want someone to lead us and “make it better now”
Am Em F G
Even though nobody knows just exactly how
So we vote them out of office Or we drag them through the streets
To make them pay for all the kids without enough to eat
We celebrate our victories despite the brutal cost
Then we lament precious things that somehow just got lost
Refrain:
F Em Dm C
Every king must fall
David fought Goliath and bravely saved the day
But later on had trouble getting out of his own way
The people paid the price for David’s weakness as a man
Every grab for power is a finger in the dam
Refrain:
Bridge:
History repeats itself ’cause we forget to learn
They say “this time it’s different, no need to be concerned…”
But freedom is a fragile thing that comes with its own cost
Who will rise to save us when the rule of law is lost?
===
We’re all a bunch of dreamers tangled up in our own dreams
We stare straight at the answer without guessing what it means
It’s not about solutions or the stuff that you can own
It’s about a Love that always welcomes us back home
