125 Kite (from Birds CD)

16752482003_4422d3e2be_zDigging around in my “music archives” on an old hard drive this morning I “re-discovered” an entire CD I’d made back around the “turn of the century”. 1999-2000 or so…

I had this great idea to do a school program about Birds. It would combine Drums, Songs and Stories personal and traditional from around the world. It would cover different cultures, as well as science…

So I spent the money to record it with Joe Mennonna and ultimately, very few schools or nature centers were interested… Ultimately it led me to the incredible observation that before spending money on a new idea or program it might be wise to see if anyone wants it! LOL…

But today, for you my dear listeners, my Kite song with some INCREDIBLE piano accompanyment by Joe Mennonna. The guy is totally a genius!

The sound effect duplicating the wind “singing the string” is with a “wind tube” kids toy that I often used in my storytelling programs…

Also of interest is a growing “flock” of photography enthusiasts who are taking aerial photos and videos from kites. Visit Flickr.com and search KAP or “Kite Aerial Photography” This pic is by Marcus Ertl and is of a kite fest in Italy.

Enjoy!

Kite Flight

Song #125   | 4/23/1989 | CD: Birds

Another version of this song was recorded on Visions & Voices CD

High above a river floating with the clouds
Singing in a whisper, nothing very loud
On either side are mountains reaching for the sky
But they can not reach as high as I…

I share the sky with birds and with the wind
I see you far below holding to my string
I am the shape of dreams and diagrams
I am the child of children of the land…

Refrain:
Kite flight, high above a river
Hear me sing your name out in a gentle whisper
Kite flight, high above a river
Watch me soar watch me dance watch me dip and shiver
Kite flight, high above a river

I am built of cloth and wood and rags
Or even paper cut from shopping bags
I can be a dragon or a fish
I can be the answer to your wish….

Refrain:

I can be a diamond or a square
I can fly forever if I do not tear
Without a breeze I can even drive you mad
I can be the freedom, you never had…

Refrain:

I sh*t you not when I say I’ve been singing the chorus to Honest Rock since the first day I heard it. I sing this every single day. Many times a day. Seriously. It’s like a mantra to me. It soothes me:-)

For me these songs are transformational lessons in self-love…

Dear Mark, THANK YOU for sending *Spark & Flame*!!!! This CD certainly is a compilation of Conscious Love Songs! As I listen I am transported to memory after memory past, present and future, fulfilled and unfulfilled. I was flooded with many different emotions. I cried, laughed, held my breath and also breathed deep heart-centered breaths of connection to the Divine. I feel joy, grief, sadness, compassion, love, awe, freedom, kindness, gratitude and appreciation. For me these songs are transformational lessons in self-love, releasing, acceptance for what was, what is and who I am. Knowing that I am enough and that I am Divinely Loved.

You have put a grown man in tears…

Mark, this song and message really hit home for me today. You have put a grown man in tears. Thank You for what you do. Sometimes I think you sound kind of cheesy, and then others, I think you are a genius, and I’m beginning to realize that you actually care about helping people. So hard to “get out of your own way” sometimes…thanks for the reminder.

Jeremy
