This one made tears come to my eyes. Not like that’s hard to do or anything (LOL). But some tears feel good. Sentimentality isn’t always bad.
I wrote this song when my first 2 kids were 1 and 3 years old… It was “triggered” because my daughter Tia was playing with blocks underneath the dining room table… and singing softly to herself… and there was also a conversation with my son Andrew when he asked me, “Dad are the rocks and trees ALIVE?”
It suddenly hit me as it probably does most parents how briefly these radiant little beings are children…
And I suddenly imagined them leaving for college… “Write me a letter, when you get there” just kept repeating and demanding a song to go along with it…
Of course they are now grown up… and NO ONE writes letters anymore… :o)

When You Get There
Song # 112 | November 1988 | CD: nope
The red block goes on top of the blue one
And the green one goes last of all
Someday I will dread the coming fall
Write me a letter, when you get there…
And the smiles and tears and the many times
When you would open your eyes in wonder
“Daddy are the trees and rocks alive?”
Write me a letter when you get there
Write me a letter when you get there
And the times I worried
If I said or did the right thing
They pass by me now and I feel thinned to sing
“Write me a letter, when you get there…”
Write me a letter when you get there
And you would look up at me and say
“Dad I love you so much…”
I still feel something deep inside, too beautiful to touch
Write me a letter, when you get there
Write me a letter when you get there
I got to watch you grow and dream
And now you choose your own way
I am so thankful that we had the time we had to play
Write me a letter, when you get there
Write me a letter, when you get there…
The red block goes on top of the blue one
And the green one goes last of all
Someday I will dread the coming fall
Write me a letter, when you get there…
Write me a letter, when you get there…
Write me a letter, when you get there…
