Here’s part four of my short film experiment with song #501, “Last Laugh”… this version is the full instrumentation and a 2nd, different version of the video combining elements of parts 1, 2, 3 and some new visuals as well…
In case your curious, I started with a live performance of Last Laugh in my living room… recorded to a click track… (which I got a little off of)… I tried adding all the other parts and instruments I was hearing in my head but then it just felt really sloppy… so I practiced laughing at my recording engineer “self” and just started totally from scratch except for the vocal… just dove deep into the “click track zone” and started with the percussion to make sure it was “locking” together… Then I redid ALL the other parts.
This was really cool because by allowing a 3 week process I was able to “live” with the tracks and to “play” with using just the drum track for my voice over in part 3 and just the refrains and instrumental version for my part 2 experiment…
Whew!
Just enough time in to really go deep but then done soon enough so I didn’t wander off to other projects before completing it…
My next experiment is to do a cover of All Along The Watch Tower by Bob Dylan… with all my huge drums… and maybe even a guitar solo… or two…
Stay tuned!
