About This Song: (lyrics below) Shine! Life In Song #437 | Written: 12/4/2011 | Recorded 12/2022
This song is meant to be sung by an X-mas or Solstice gathering of people at the top of their lungs with everybody jingling keys, clapping hands, and playing hand percussion.
In Western culture, whether you are a Christian or not, you can’t help but be affected by the powerful story of a poor family who have to have their baby in a stable because all the rooms are full at the inn. And despite the poverty and low status of birth, this kid is actually a King.
Divinely ordained to change the world by introducing the simple yet mind blowing idea that “God Is LOVE!”
We know how the story ends and there’s a tragic yet beautiful wistfulness about the whole thing.
We’ve all been unconsciously affected by the story of the virgin birth, the Shepherds and the Wise Men as well as the betrayal, the cross and the resurrection.
Some believe it literally. Some believe it metaphorically. Some don’t believe it at all.
I think it’s a teaching tale and a transformational story. I think it is healing and powerful and magical and mystical and wonderful in many, many ways. I definitely prefer it to the glitz and pressure to buy, buy, buy that has come to dominate the Christmas season. Ultimately it’s about LOVE, not presents, not stuff, not office parties where everybody gets drunk.
This song is for those of us who seek something deeper and more meaningful in life than what the media shoves down our throats every December. Peace!

Shine
Song #437 | 12/4/2011 | Recorded 12/2022
Key of G (I think) (please note I now do this one step lower Key of F. Capo on the 3rd fret and play A | G | D | C |G for the verse and A|G|D | Dsus | D for the refrain)
D C G F C
Out in the darkness a child is born
D C G F C
Is he who we expected or something more?
D C G F C
His father is a dreamer his mother is poor
D C G F C
Tell me what you seek as you peek around the stable door…
Refrain:
D A G
Shine, Shine Shine
Out in the distance a star ignites
Even in the daytime you can see its light
Could this be a sign of the end of times?
Or just an invitation to change your mind?
Refrain:
Back in the beginning was the word
Breaking through the silence to be heard
Can you hear it now? Can you turn it up?
You know the Word is “Love.” Come and fill your cup
Refrain:
