On My Way Song #76 (Full Arrangement)

Audio:

Check out my Solo Acoustic recording in 2016 at Joe Mennonna’s studio.

At the time of writing this song “On My Way,” (Life In Song #76) it was 1985. I was 24 years old. My 21 year old wife was 7 months pregnant with our first child, Andrew (who is 38 years old at the moment I release this!).
[Lyrics are below] Married only 4 months, we were not talking or connecting very well. We had no clue how. I was about as lost and alone as a person can be… and thinking about death… the death of my dream to be a musician, the death of my childhood, all kinds of shitty, not so “positive” thoughts.

And in the midst of this my grandmother, Marian Shepard turned 100.

I was trying to imagine sticking around for 100 years… and it being good. At that moment, it wasn’t easy.

As I look back on this song as well as the others that I wrote around this time, the encouraging messages that I was unconsciously “channeling” were, I think, setting the stage for the deeper growth and personal wisdom that would come much, much later…

To this day one of my most useful “Mind Mastery” exercises is to focus on the present moment and literally breathe in all that is beautiful and magical and sweet about “Right Now. ” Take a moment and imagine having only a year, 90 days, a month, a week, a day to live… it puts a lot into perspective.

Not too long afterwards, my grandmother passed away at 100 1/2.

None of us lasts forever. Eventually we will ALL make this passage.

As I upload this to my channel on 11/10/2023 it is exactly a year since my partner Ursula’s step-father Ron Kleef made HIS passage. I recorded it then to honor HIS memory… and then, as sometimes happens, life got in the way of releasing it.

Reflecting on and evaluating what is most important in our lives is a vital part of waking up to this miracle of being alive. None of us know how long we have to walk this beautiful Earth with these beautiful companions. Let us not take anything or any one for granted!

I hope this song can be useful in YOUR life to celebrate and mark the journey you’re on with the people you love. May we appreciate the spark and flame of each life that lights up our own lives!

Peace, Love & Groovyness!

LYRICS:
On My Way

Song# 76 | March 1985 | CD: Coming Soon!

When we walk out in the silence
Will we be gone? Really gone for sure?
And when we dance out in the distance
Will we find the truth that cures?

We are blind and we are lame
We are full of doubt and shame
And in the end, no matter who we are
We are destined for the stars

Refrain:
I am finally on my way
I’ve seen my share of beautiful days
And I’ve heard much fine music play
I’m on my way, yes I’m on my way

We can dance upon dry land
We can dance upon the sea
We can dance up in the air
You can dance any time with me

Refrain:

We become who we say we are
And we are who we become
And if you ask me, There’s only One who knows
Who we really are and where we really are from

Refrain:

You have put a grown man in tears…

Mark, this song and message really hit home for me today. You have put a grown man in tears. Thank You for what you do. Sometimes I think you sound kind of cheesy, and then others, I think you are a genius, and I’m beginning to realize that you actually care about helping people. So hard to “get out of your own way” sometimes…thanks for the reminder.

For me these songs are transformational lessons in self-love…

Dear Mark, THANK YOU for sending *Spark & Flame*!!!! This CD certainly is a compilation of Conscious Love Songs! As I listen I am transported to memory after memory past, present and future, fulfilled and unfulfilled. I was flooded with many different emotions. I cried, laughed, held my breath and also breathed deep heart-centered breaths of connection to the Divine. I feel joy, grief, sadness, compassion, love, awe, freedom, kindness, gratitude and appreciation. For me these songs are transformational lessons in self-love, releasing, acceptance for what was, what is and who I am. Knowing that I am enough and that I am Divinely Loved.

J
