5 Running In Rain (STAW)

16173566_sReaching back again today deep into the archives from my first LP, “Songs Through A Window” (STAW) comes, “Running in Rain”.

You can hear a more recent recording that I did back in January here: Running In Rain 2015.

For me this was the first chance I’d had to actually record all the parts I heard in my head… There is a three part round with multiple harmonies here as well as my first foray into playing some single note “lead” guitar stuff.

The “story” behind this was the announcement in gym (which I hated) that for the last 1/4 of the academic year we could go running and have our parents sign a form that attested to that. So I, of course, jumped on the opportunity. I even went running a couple of times! I even actually went running in the rain one day… but then this song came through and I ended up working on that instead…

Personally I think running is bad for you! I teach a lot of faster, more effective ways to get a better metabolic and muscular workout in my weight loss and fitness course, “Its Not Just About The Food!”

But what did we know back in 1978? LOL

Running In Rain

Song #5 | June 1977   |  Album: Songs Through A Window

Running in rain
And rejoicing in windshields
That drive by insisting
That I am insane
I ponder the meanings
That lie in the clouds
Knowing full well
That the answers
Lie on the ground

Traveling through the reaches
Of many self made lands
Wandering on the beaches
Formed with mind made sands

Breathing the rain
And moving in solitude
I’m part of the pavement
And part of the sky
Praying to time,
The god of Man
I ask to be able
To go where I can

Travel through the reaches
Of many self made lands
Wander on the beaches
Formed with mind made sands

On my way home
I pass children
In their raincoats
Splashing in puddles
And they laugh with me

But, still I…

Feel the wanderer
Rushing inside
Free on the moment
And soft on the high
Moving in rhythm
Of forward thrust
I may change
But the rain stays the same

Oh the rain stays the same…

Oh the rain stays the same…

Oh the rain stays, the rain stays, the rains stays the same.
