Not quite sure what to make of this song… It might be a love song… Or a break up song… Or a character study of someone extremely interesting who’s path crossed mine at a certain time in a way that “nudged” me in a direction that caused other events to unfold…
Ever know anyone like that?

Melanie
Song # 392 | 2/25/2009 | CD: tbd
Melanie is from Kentucky
But she wants to see the world
And she knows that she is lucky
Every dive leads her straight to pearls
I can’t say I understood her
But I knew where she’d come from
And I’d never think to put her
In a place where she could not see the sun
Refrain:
And the rising rage of this melting river
As it smashes headstrong towards the sea
Would never be enough to keep her
From where she always wants to be
(From seeing what she wants to see)
(From being who she wants to be)
Every day is as it should be
Every day unfolds like gold
If you call the water wine (enough times)
Will it finally do what it is told?
A part of her will try tell you
That a part of her is mad
And a part will try hurt you
While another feels sincerely bad
Refrain:
When she told me she was leaving
A part of me was glad to see her go
We each insist on our own meaning
Even though we really never know
When she told me she was leaving
A part of me was sad to see her go
And our words are so misleading
As they shoot like arrows from our Beaus
Refrain:
Melanie was from Kentucky
But she left to see the world
And she knew that she was lucky
Every dive led her straight to pearls
