199 The Breaking of Silence

14921060_sThis song is about moving past the immediate surfaces of things, to a deeper meaning, to the breaking of silence…

It was around this time that I first started writing songs to drums… Here it’s a large frame drum… The tricky thing about singing to drums is that depending upon the weather the pitch varies a lot… On this day, this drum happened to be just the right pitch…

The Breaking of Silence

Song #199 | November 1993 | CD: tbd

You could be the moon on the ocean
You could be a spark upon a river of fire
You could be the breeze that calls it up into the sky

You could be the day that I met you
You could be the cousin of the Wizard of Oz
You could be the writing on the back of my grandfather’s watch

Refrain:
And I don’t know what secrets you hold
Or what possessions you have recently sold
All I know is what I have been told…

You could be the town I grew up in
You could be the weather on a trip to the beach
You could be endless acres of green winter wheat

You could be the breaking of silence
You could be a drum playing late in the night
You could be the kiss on my lips as I turn off the light…

Refrain:

You could be the eyes of the children
Watching from the window as you walk to the door
You could be that but I know that you could be much more

Motion is a fact of our living
Stillness is a song that we engrave on our hearts
Living is a dream where we can give ourselves a reason to start

Refrain:

You could be the breaking of silence
You could be a drum playing late in the night
You could be the kiss on my lips as I turn off the light…
